How much should I apply?
As a general rule, you should apply GeoBlasts at a depth of 2-3 inches.
Are GeoBlasts detrimental to plant growth?
No. Using GeoBlasts will actually help your plants by inhibiting weed growth and preventing weeds from breaking through the soil. GeoBlasts also keep the soil surface cool and help it retain moisture. Another added bonus is the beauty and variety that GeoBlasts bring to your landscape. The best way to maintain good plant growth is to implement and follow recommended fertilizer programs and a good horticultural practice. For example, you may want to gently work a specially formulated fertilizer (like 16-9-12, 18-11-12, or 20-10-10) into the soil before applying GeoBlasts. Another alternative is to use landscape fabric as a barrier to cut down on potential depletion.
PROPER APPLICATION
Spring/summer is the ideal season to apply GeoBlasts (soil temperatures are warmer). Apply a 2-3 inch layer of GeoBlasts around annuals and perennials. As with any landscaping material, avoid applying GeoBlasts directly around the stems of plants and trunks of trees, and spread GeoBlasts evenly. How much does one ton of GeoBlasts cover? To calculate the square footage of area to be covered multiply the length x the width.

GeoBlasts is a copyrighted colored slag material. Colored slag is heavier than lava rock and comparable or lighter in weight to most other stone products on the market. This is very beneficial because users would not experience the same problems that lava rock causes, the product being washed, rolled, or blown away. Slag is much more durable than lava rock and comparable to other products on the market. Slag is also readily available and does not have to be mined or shipped long distance which limit handling damages.
Slag is a blast furnace by-product, which causes some people to feel it would not be environmentally suitable to their yard. Colored slag does not have a large current reputation in the landscape market, but has been well received for many reasons.
There is no question that structurally slag will last, but it is essential for the color to adhere to the rock for a prolonged period of time to provide customers with a product that will not need to be replaced season after season like mulch. The color manufacture and currant studies indicate it is reasonable to expect seven years. A conservative range may be 5-8 years, yet we have witnessed even after heavy truck and loader tramping that this product never loses its excellent character. The character of slag lends its aesthetics close to that of lava rock. Aesthetics of many holes and fissures, a good yield and half the price of lava rock makes this product an excellent choice.
